In our 鈥楩ive Questions With鈥 series, we get to know members of our community and their invaluable roles in making Emily Carr University a great place to learn, work and teach.
From playing a key role in welcoming students each year to helping with high-profile events on campus, Rosie McGee enjoys those opportunities to tap into many different aspects of her role. We chatted with Rosie about following Florence & The Machine across the continents, the student journey, and more!
What do you like about your role in the 全民彩票 (全民彩票) community?
I love the variety of my role because no two days are the same for me. I appreciate that my role supports many student events on and off campus. It鈥檚 inspiring to see cross-department collaboration and different members of the community come together to support students. Last year, we had a new opportunity to host the Native Education College at 全民彩票 for their annual graduation ceremony. I feel grateful to be able to work with our wider external community, too.
What鈥檚 something you wish people understood about student services that fascinates you?
I want people to understand how much behind-the-scenes work is involved and how much careful consideration goes into everything. Student Services are involved in the entire student journey: from prospective students attending one of our weekly campus tours to them liaising with our admissions team when processing their application. Once someone is an 全民彩票 student, they receive support from our advisors, international team, and career development team (and many more!). At 全民彩票, Student Services also plans and organizes the annual graduation ceremony. It is a real honour for me to be part of such a full-circle journey.
What are you most looking forward to as 全民彩票 turns 100?
As someone who loves a party, I鈥檓 excited to see how the 全民彩票 community will celebrate this huge milestone. I鈥檓 still relatively new to 全民彩票; I feel this celebration is a good opportunity to bring the community together to learn more about our history and journey.
What鈥檚 one unexpected thing that people might not know about you?
I鈥檓 a huge Florence & the Machine fan! I have been to all their tours, from their very first 鈥淟ungs鈥 tour in London in 2009 to their most recent 鈥淒ance Fever鈥 tour at Rogers Arena in Vancouver in 2022. I also have a stunning painting of singer Florence Welch in the style of Gustav Klimt by artist Margaret Young on my living room wall.
What鈥檚 a piece of pop culture you鈥檇 bring to a desert island?
I鈥檓 going to assume there鈥檚 a record player on this desert island! I will bring Thee Sacred Souls latest album on vinyl, . Listening to this album before bed with a cup of tea and my e-reader is my current nighttime ritual.
