Portfolio + Supporting Material | Graduate Admissions

Your portfolio and supporting material are a window into your practice.

Applicants must submit their portfolio and supporting material online by January 15, 2026.

All materials must be completed in order for your application to be reviewed.

As an applicant to the Master of Design (Interdisciplinary) and Master of Design (Interaction) streams, you are required to submit:

Portfolio

Your portfolio will provide the Admissions Committee with a set of examples of your studio work to evaluate your readiness to pursue a graduate education at Emily Carr University.

Submit examples of your design projects. Be selective. Curate and edit your portfolio to present your strongest, most imaginative and recent work.

Written Response

Your written response will provide the Admissions Committee with a sense of your direction and development as a designer. Respond based on the prompt provided online.

Video Response

Your video response will allow the Admissions Committee to evaluate your readiness to pursue a graduate education at Emily Carr University. Pre-record a video of yourself answering the provided prompt online and upload it.

Keywords Exercise

Contextualize your work by listing keywords to describe your practice, creative process and/or research.

Curriculum Vitae/Resume

List relevant professional and academic experiences. Include publications, volunteer and community work, awards and honours and other achievements.

Recommendation Forms

3 recommendation forms are required. Your referees should be familiar with your art or design practice and research.

Reach out to your referees early, to allow them sufficient time. Recommendation Forms are filled in electronically, directly by the referees. Referees must use an official email address associated with an academic institution, or company.

Once an applicant enters an email address of a referee, the referee will automatically receive a message with instructions. The applicant will receive a confirmation once the recommendation form is filled successfully.

As an applicant to the Master of Fine Arts (Full-residency) and Master of Fine Arts (Low-residency) streams, you are required to submit:

Before you use SlideRoom please make sure that:

  • You have applied through the .
  • You have used the same name on both and Slideroom.
  • You selected the right program. There are several programs listed on our SlideRoom portal; it is very important that you upload your work into the correct program that you are applying for.

You may upload images (jpg, png, gif) or video (mov, wmv, flv, mp4), music (mp3) and PDF documents.

Using the 'Submit' function in SlideRoom

SlideRoom allows you to log in, upload, and edit your portfolio as much as you like prior to pressing the 'Submit' button. However, once you click the submit button, you will no longer be able to make changes.

You must click the submit button if you want us to review your portfolio. Unsubmitted or pending portfolios will not be reviewed.

A small fee will be charged at the time of submission.
